Planning a Beach Vacation in Sri Lanka? -Don’t Forget to Bring these Items to the Beach!

By being an island nation in the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka has plenty of beautiful beaches which are one of the many things that make a visit to this country well worth your time and money. Whether they’re located on North, South, East or West they always have those two characteristic qualities- gorgeous golden sands and warm waters. However, if you are planning on organizing a beach trip in Sri Lanka, there are some items that are absolutely necessary.

Sun Screen

Sri Lanka is a tropical country with an average temperature of 81 °F and in popular beach destinations like Hikkaduwa and Bentota, this can go as high as 88°F. So unless you want to gain the same colour of a boiled lobster, you should pack a good sunscreen for your beach trip. Now there are a few good local brands in the island, but it’s better to bring one from home as there are many tourists who have complained about the quality of these local lotions. You should apply the sunscreen at least 15-20 minutes before stepping outside so as to allow the lotion to dry properly. Then re-apply within every 2 hours time.

Food & Water

Now, in popular beach destinations like Bentota, restaurants serving clean, good quality food such as those by luxury resorts like AVANI Bentota Resort & Spa; are found plenty, so you don’t need to worry about food and water. However, if you’re visiting a beach that’s not so frequented by tourists, chances are you won’t find good places to eat. There will be small eateries along the road that are best to be avoided especially if you have a sensitive stomach. Therefore, in order to avoid food poisoning in such an instance, it’s always wise to pack a few snacks and a bottle/ bottles of water to refresh yourself after an energy consuming session of either swimming, snorkelling or any other water sport.

Proper Clothes

And finally, proper clothes, for what is a beach vacation without those uber-cool summer outfits that you can take pics of and upload on Instagram? In addition to the bathing suits, make sure to pack a pair of flip flops, a large sunhat and of course good sunnies. Also, pack an extra t-shirt to cover up as protection against the sun when lying on the beach for a long time. Ladies, don’t forget those gorgeous kaftans. Usually, Sri Lankan beaches are lined with stalls selling colourful batik sarongs that are perfect for covering up as well should you want to.
