Sri Lanka is regarded as the pearl of the Indian Ocean , and it no doubt has a wealth of resources. The island has been famous among tourist for a long period of time. Most tourist come to the island to escape the cold and enjoy basking in the sun on golden sandy beaches. One of the best places to enjoy the sun and sea would be the southern coast of Sri Lanka. Resorts are widely available along the coast as oppose to any other regions of the country. Citrus Leisure has opened up two hotels along the Southern belt and these have been highly recommended by past travelers. The affordable luxury has been one of the key reasons for the pick.
The South Coast has a wealth of activities to do. The towns along the coast are less developed compared to the western coast. The town of Galle is an excellent place to spend the day, the colonial fort which now has many cafes and eateries as well as museums and galleries is one of the most relaxing experiences.
Mulgiriya is another place to visit while in the South of Sri Lanka, located 16 kilometers north of Tangalle, it’s one of Sri Lanka’s finest ancient monuments. Its an array of beautifully decorated ancient temples carved out of rocks. The temples are located on four different levels and is connected by 500 steps and the summit offers picturesque views.Another place worth visiting would be the Kirinda temple again located on a rock close to the sea and the views from the top are simply breath taking.
Another place to visit while in the south would be the Yala National Park. Home to some of the richest wild life of the country the park covers most of the South East region. This park is a perfect place to spot leopards.
Of course a trip to the south wont be complete without a dip in the sea , and the South has some of the finest beaches in the country.
