Soft golden sand, palm trees swaying in the breeze and a horizon of azure as the call of the ocean beckons you onwards; Calido Beach in Kalutara offers a coastal getaway that the whole family can enjoy.
Getting there
Around one and a half hours from Colombo, Calido Beach lies close to the Kalutara North Railway Station. The beach is also around a 15 minute drive from Siddhalepa Ayurveda Health Resort Wadduwa and other such nearby health resorts.
Origins of the name
In case you are wondering, the name “Calido” (or Cálido) is Spanish which translates to “warm”; a rather apt name not only for the tropical weather here, but also the friendly and laid-back atmosphere you are likely to encounter.
Seaside bliss
While Calido Beach is relatively small, it does offer sun-soaked shores, perfect for working on that tan or enjoying time with loved ones. Sunsets here are gorgeous and kite flying is a popular activity especially in August. Combine your visit to the beach with a stay at a close by Ayurveda resort in Sri Lanka for the ultimate in coastal relaxation.
Keep in mind
Do remember that the ocean waters can be particularly rough from May to September when the monsoon hits and it may not be advisable to engage in swimming during this time.
