Sure, Seychelles is famous for its dreamy beaches, but if you are staying in Mahé, you have got so much more at your doorstep. So, slip off those flip-flops now and then and head away from the beach (don’t worry, it will be waiting for you!) because there’s a whole other side of the island to be experienced.
Explore Enchanting Victoria
If you are based at a beach resort in Mahé, such as Avani+ Barbarons Seychelles, you can easily plan a trip to Victoria, one of the smallest capitals in the world, but BIG on charm. Wander through the colourful Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market offering fresh produce, spices and handicrafts, before stopping by the iconic Victoria Clock Tower. Swing past the Natural History Museum, then head to the National Botanical Gardens nearby, where you can even feed giant tortoises!
Visit the SeyTe Tea Factory
Perched on the misty slopes of Morne Blanc, this factory still makes tea the old-fashioned way. Suffice it to say that getting to visit this site is yet another reason you should opt for a property in Mahé when looking for the best resort in Seychelles. Take the tour to see leaves go from plant to packet, all while soaking in stunning hillside views and crisp mountain air. Of course, sampling a variety of fragrant teas adds to the joy of the experience.
Hike at Morne Seychellois National Park
Take a literal walk (or hike rather!) on the wild side as you explore the Morne Seychellois National Park set amidst a rainforest, mangroves and cool misty peaks. There are easy trails for a gentle wander and tougher routes for the truly adventurous. Keep your eyes peeled for the Seychelles Kestrel or the chatty Seychelles Bulbul. And, if you make it to the top of Morne Seychellois, the island’s highest point, the views are definitely worth the effort!

Savour Local Culinary Delights
Food here is a delicious blend of African, French, Indian, and Chinese influences, all lending to distinctive Creole cuisine. Freshly grilled fish stuffed with garlic, chilli, and ginger is a must-try, along with coconut Creole curry or a comforting bouyon blan (a type of fish broth). For dessert, try the sweet version of ladob made with ripe plantain or breadfruit. Of course, you can also join a cooking class at your resort and unlock the secrets of authentic local dishes.
