Journeying down the western coastal stretch, one comes upon the city of Marawila, a place not totally a city like Colombo. With a temperature hovering around 25 to 30 Celsius and a continuous wind blowing from the coastal edge, the city is mostly sunny and great for holidays. While the city centre is quite a bustling area, towards the costal stretch there is a much more peaceful ambience that is nicely mingled with the joyous voices and laugher emitting from the hotel interiors or their verandas and outdoor restaurants.
Marawila town is quite small with few roads and lies alongside the A3 route in Puttlam district. Belonging to the north western province of Sri Lanka, the town has its own train station as well and can also be easily accessed via bus routes from Colombo. There are shrimp farms as well as prawn farms to be visited where one can discover the meticulous maintenance of conditions that provide the backdrop for prawn farming which is considered to be an extremely profitable business. If you are bored, you can probably take a boat ride and explore the lagoon.
Marawila is essentially a tourist area with a throng of hotels which have made maximum use of the great weather and excellent locations to entertain the tourists. Perhaps the biggest temptation is the availability of succulent seafood which the locals know how to prepare for an irresistible combination. Marinated prawns tampered with thick spicy sauces or fried to a crispy bite, or shrimps finely cooked are the perfect accompaniment for a dinner out at one of the many beachside restaurants or even small eateries.
The coast is also strewn with many beach hotels Sri Lanka that simply personify a state of paradise, with their placement on the edge of the turquoise blue waters and the golden sand upon which the sun shines every day. Club Palm Bay Marawila lies sprawling across a luxurious stretch of over 22 acres of pristine beach where the sea looks on from one side while the lagoon beckons from the other. While there are great fishing expeditions nearby as well as visits for dolphin watching, many Marawila hotels also have what it takes to entertain visitors within luxurious living spaces and gastronomic delights mostly comprising of juicy seafood treats.
