The Muliaage Palace in Maldives is the residence of the President of the Maldives, that located in the capital city of Male. The residence is also located in close proximity to the Grand Friday Mosque and the Grand Minaret of Male, which is also known as Munnaru. The Muliaage was completed in 1919, after construction of the premises began in 1914. The palace was said to have been built for Prince Hassan Izzuddin by his father Sultan Muhammad Shamsudeen. With a bright pink roof, a mosaic gate and an electric blue and white facade, the palace adds just the right amount of colour to your city tour, also making it a very grand and spectacular structure in the city. The architectural style of the building is believed to have been influenced by that of Sri Lanka.
However, as this is the current premises of the President, no one’s allowed to enter through the gates, and eager visitors will only have to look through its iron gates.
In the past, the Muliaage Palace has been known to house the Ministry of Home Affairs, The Prime Minister’s Office and even the Supreme Court of Maldives at one point. The presidential palace has also welcomed royal guests like Queen Elizabeth II.
