Pondicherry, located in South India, is an immensely popular tourist destination. It boasts a wide array of colonial architecture, reminiscent of its French colonial past, while keeping its Tamil charm. In addition there are a number of famous ashrams, and picturesque churches which all contribute to the calm, spiritual atmosphere of Pondicherry. Accommodation in Pondicherry can be found quite easily, with a number of affordable hotels, such as Hotel Atithi, in the vicinity of a number of tourist attractions, and beaches.
While the spiritual nature of Pondicherry may be renowned, the most popular areas of Pondicherry are its 4 beaches, Paradise Beach being one of them. Paradise Beach is situated roughly 8km from the city and can be reached by boat from Chunnambar, which makes this beach isolated and peaceful. While there may be a crowd, this beach exudes serenity and the gentle lapping of waves onto the sandy shore serve as a soundtrack to one of the most relaxing places in South India.
The bar on the beach serves cold drinks and delicious finger foods, perfect for lounging on the beach while soaking up the sun. If you are travelling with children, breathe easy as the water is shallow and the waves do not get too rough, making the beach child-friendly. There are also a number of attractions for children, like the tree house and bouncy castle to keep them occupied throughout the day. In the event you feel like retreating to the shade to cool down, there are thatched shelter areas, or even changing rooms with showers.
Make sure you don’t get too carried away on Paradise Beach as the last boat off the beach leaves at 6.30pm, just in time for you to watch the sun set over the majestic Indian Ocean on a beach so idyllic, it seems like paradise.
