A fine example of Bhutanese architecture, Rinpung Dzong is one of the most impressive and well-known dzongs in Paro. Majority of tourists who book a Bhutan hotel consider proximity to popular attractions like this before traveling to the country and most of Bhutan tour packages include a visit to this historic building. The original name of Rinpung Dzong is Rinchen Pung Dzong which means fortress on a heap of jewels currently houses monastic body and district government offices, including the local courts.
Outside the northeast of the entrance to Rinpung Dzong, there is a stone-paved wide area where masked dancers perform the main dances of the tsechu and also a painted religious picture Guru Rinpoche who built this historic monastery in 1644. This unique dzong attracts thousands of tourists every year due to its cultural significance and architectural beauty.
