Throughout history, Sri Lanka has occupied an important position in the world as an economic trade centre, holiday destination and cultural core. The coastal areas have been at the forefront as they were easily accessed by sailing merchants. Like most other towns along the shoreline, Beruwala too has a history intertwined with tradesmen and commercial ventures. It is believed that the village was initially set up by Arab traders who used to frequent the area, thus is acknowledged as the earliest Muslim settlement in Sri Lanka.
As a tourist location, Beruwala has gained tremendous prominence due to its relative proximity to the airport and the possibility to arrange excursions with the city as the central point. The Galle Fort, the Turtle Hatchery in Kosgoda, cruises through Lunuganga and a pilgrimage to the marble Buddha statue at Sri Kalyanarama Maha Viharaya can be accessed without any inconvenience. You can do or see any one or two of these in a day and return to your comfortable abode without expending all your energy.
Many adventurous people find the weather appropriate for water sports too. May it be parasailing, wind surfing, river cruising or water skiing the waves, the breeze and the sun will support your cause almost all throughout the year. For the less bold, a sun chair, a bottle of lotion and a long chilled drink should be fine accompaniments to achieve a golden tan and some well needed rest.
Sri Lanka beach hotels emanate as much warmth as do the rays of the sun that embrace the golden sands around. Beruwala hotels are no exception to this rule and are an absolute joy to visit. The Palm Beruwala is one of the most heavily patronized among them all.
