Fortunately there was no loss of life and the crew and passengers were safely rescued.
The exact site of the wreck is marked by a conspicuous buoy, and boats may be moored to this marker. The strong currents in the area mean that it is mandatory to employ a line to guide the diver and return to the ocean surface. Usually divers commence their exploration from the main mast, which rises to a height of a mere 12 metres underneath the surface of the waters. When the diver reaches the deck of the ship, the structure offers protection from the water currents. The massive vessel is fascinating to explore, but it is wise to make use of the services of a divemaster as well as a powerful flashlight when exploring the inner reaches of the vessel.
A great variety of marine life, including those usually seen on reefs and underwater caverns and grottoes may be seen in the confines of the ship. These include batfish, barracuda, schools of fusiliers and humphead wrasses amidst innumerable other creatures. Many divers have also noticed a huge sea turtle resting on the ship’s bowsprit.
